Gyoda has fertile grounds between the two major rivers Tone River and Arakawa River.
Cotton and indigo were cultivated and the production of indigo dye cotton cloth began, and the production of Tabi started from this.
According to tradition, it is said that Oshi Domain lord encouraged women in its domain to make Tabi during 1716-1735.
As the Meiji Period became, sewing machines were to be used so the production volume of Tabi was increased.
Since Oshi Commercial Bank and Gyoda Electric Light Co., Ltd. were established, the funds and power supply became stable so that the sewing machine became electrified.
After that Gyoda’s Tabi became top of Japan both in name and reality.
Socks are in widespread use but even now the production of Tabi has been continued and its new products would be delivered to domestic and overseas market. Gyoda city is all about Tabi.

This event which was hold as the Best Tabinist Contest until 2016 has been reborn as the same contest as Tabi Collection since last year.
We are waiting for applications to this contest from people who are full of love for Tabi, such as those who are very particular about Tabi and who would like to suggest new arrangement styles of it..
